Today we met with lovely people from the community who are interested in volunteering and being a part of our “auxiliary”.  Lots of people want to know how they can get involved.  My response is to give me a call and discuss ways you want to get involved.  We will work out a plan that helps us and that works easily for you and your schedule.  The process of getting involved is to fill out the “Anacortes Family Center Employment/Volunteer application, “and  fill out the “Authorization for Background Check” and return them to me.  It is super easy.

Some options for volunteering:  Adopt a Unit, teach a “life skill”, tell our residents about a service in our community or county, organize an AFC activity for our residents, perform maintenance or carpentry jobs, provide a vehicle for hauling, etc.

Another question we get asked frequently, “Besides cash donations, what material needs do you have at the AFC?”  These needs change periodically but right now are needs are:

●             Small bathroom or kitchen rugs

●             5’ x 7’ (or similar) area rugs

●             Chest of drawers

●             Gas grill

●             Hose for watering

●             Cleaning supplies like:  Window cleaner, dishwasher soap, dish soap, kitchen and bathroom cleaner, scouring powder, floor cleaner

●             Plexiglass cover for our conference table (approx. 96” x 36”)

If you are interested in learning more about the AFC auxiliary, please give me a call.  Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 25th in the Resource Room at the AFC.  I am constantly humbled by our  generous community of Anacortes!  Thank you so much for your interest in supporting the work at the Anacortes Family Center.
